Introduction

A new train station at Black Forrest Road is not just a convenience; it's a necessity for our community's sustained growth and well-being. Wyndham Vale is a dynamic suburb in Melbourne's west, and it is at a pivotal moment in its development. With a 2022 Estimated Resident Population of 22,357 people and growing, the need for public transport is undeniable. The bursting Tarneit station and planned Tarneit West station are not enough.

The Pressing Need

Wyndham Vale's population density and continuous growth, especially in areas like the Harpley Estate, having outpaced the current transport infrastructure. The existing public transit options are inadequate for a community with a land area of 26.89 square kilometres. Wyndham Vale stretches from the Werribee River in the north to Greens Road in the south, and from Heaths Road in the east to Cobbledicks Ford Road in the west.

Strategic Location and Opportunity

The proposed site for the new station, originally was part of the Regional Rail Link project, and is strategically located. The land for the station is already owned by the state government. This presents a unique and cost-effective opportunity to develop this crucial infrastructure.

However, with the state's financial challenges, there's a potential looming risk of land for a future station and car park being sold to developers. Such a move would be short-sighted, robbing Wyndham Vale of a critical asset for its future development.

Impact on Community and Environment

A new station at Black Forrest Road would not only serve the immediate transport needs of over 22,000 residents but also foster sustainable growth. It would ease traffic congestion, reduce carbon emissions, and provide a much-needed link to local amenities, including schools, shopping centers, and recreational facilities like Eagle Stadium.

The State Government needs to act now to improve the transport future of the south-western metropolitan region.
